Beginning Birding at the Viera Wetlands Field Trip

October 21, 2018 @ 4:30 am - 7:00 am

Join Space Coast Audubon members Rochelle, David, Dee and Jeff for a tour of the Viera Wetlands (Rich Grissom Memorial Wetlands). This is perfect location for kids from 2 to 92 to get your introduction to birding. The wetlands contain a variety of waterfowl, which is a great group of birds to learn and enjoy. They are colorful, fairly large, and tend to stay in one place, which makes for easy viewing and identification. David and Dee Simpson (professional birding guides) will start off the day with an introduction to birding presentation. New members and first time birders will receive a Golden Guide to Birds mini-field guide book. After a quick question and answer session we will start birding the wetlands. Children are welcome and no previous birding experience is required.

This field trip will be a combination of driving and easy walking (depends on rain conditions and which sections of the wetlands are open for driving). We recommend closed toe shoes, sunscreen and insect repellent. Bring binoculars if you have them, but if not we will have telescopes and can share binoculars. Please bring bottled water and a snack. The only restroom is a portable toilet at the entrance.

Email [email protected] if you have questions. Look for Rochelle (car with a bird flag hanging off it) and the Birding With David Simpson sign on Dee & David’s vehicle in the parking lot adjacent to the wetlands.
