Cruickshank Sanctuary – Field Trip and Birder Chat w/Appetizers

Helen & Allan Cruickshank were pioneers in leading conservation to protect wildlife in Brevard County and beyond. During this dusk hike, trip leader Charlie Venuto will provide a bit of history on the significant impact the Cruickshanks had in the protection of wildlife habitats and birding areas we enjoy today.

Space Coast Audubon is especially grateful to the Cruickshanks as the endowment donation they created helps to fund our Chapter operating expenses so we can provide nature activities at low or no cost to participants on our field trips.

Charlie will share some background on the Cruickshanks before we head out on the trail. We will explore and observe on the trail for 1 hour before returning to the parking area before sunset. The sanctuary is home to many Florida scrub jays, our state’s only endemic bird. This dusk hike may also provide an opportunity to hear or see some of the owls that call this property home.

Following the hike, we will travel to a local restaurant for a gathering to enjoy appetizers and learn more about the Cruickshanks. Restaurant details will be updated in the Meetup shortly and will be emailed to all registered participants. Most likely the restaurant will be Long Doggers on Viera Blvd. Please RSVP to host (Rochelle Hood) to indicate if you would like to join for appetizers.
